Salman Khan took to Twitter to urge citizens to vote in the Lok Sabha elections which commence next month. “We are a democracy and it is every Indian's right to vote. I urge every eligible Indian to exercise your right and participate in making the government,” he wrote.

The tweet was in response to an earlier message from Narendra Modi who addressed Salman and Aamir Khan asking them to use their influence to inspire the youth to vote.

Modi had earlier gone on what appeared to be a tweeting spree in which he addressed Bollywood celebrities, politicians, sportspeople and the media, appealing to them to encourage citizens to vote.

Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar and Karan Johar were among those in Bollywood who responded to his messages acknowledging the importance for one to vote.
