Ranbir Kapoor’s elder sister Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, who operates her own festive jewellery label, R Jewellery, has issued an apology for allegedly plagiarising the design of a pair of earrings from legendary Japanese designer Kokichi Mikimoto.

Riddhima had shared the now-deleted picture of a pair of pearl earrings on her Instagram, soon after which the post came to the attention of DietSabya, an account that points out imitations and plagiarism in Indian fashion. DietSabya blasted Riddhima while sharing a side by side comparison of Kokichi Mikimoto's “iconic” pearl earrings and Riddhima's similar design.

Once DietSabya brought it to attention, Riddhima came under fire from many fans and followers.

In a matter of hours Riddhima deleted the photo and put out a statement apologising for not crediting Kokichi Mikimoto. The statement said that the label respects the creativity of every designer and the original post was meant to be “inspirational”.
