I Have Never Been Pro-War: Priyanka Chopra on Twitter Controversy

Priyanka Chopra was honoured for her contribution to cinema at the Marrakech International Film Festival on 5 December. In an interview to thedailybeast.com, PeeCee opened up about the recent Twitter controversy that she was a part of. The otherwise diplomatic actor had become part of a social media frenzy because of a tweet and something she had said in Los Angeles.
Priyanka was accused of facilitating nuclear war. Now, speaking about the same, she said that she never was and never will be pro-war. “Whatever had happened was very unfortunate. I never was and never will be pro-war and my work all these years is a testament to that,” she said.
A Pakistani-American woman had called Priyanka Chopra a hypocrite after she has posted the tweet, given the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan. “So it was kind of hard hearing you talk about humanity, because as your neighbour, a Pakistani, I know you’re a bit of a hypocrite,” Ayesha Malik had said and even posted the video on her Twitter page.
She also referenced Chopra’s tweet saying: “You are a Unicef ambassador for peace, and you're encouraging nuclear war against Pakistan. There’s no winner in this.”
Just before receiving the honour at Marrakech, Priyanka was also bestowed with Danny Kaye Humanitarian Award in New York from UNICEF. When asked by the publication as to whether being a celebrity, a goodwill ambassador and a political commentator becomes too much at times, Priyanka replied, “I have always believed that influence comes with a lot of responsibility. I have always hoped to be able to use my influence in terms of philanthropy, and creativity in the arts, and to be able to speak about my opinions. Since I have travelled a lot, I hope to give people perspective they may not have.”
