Priya Dutt, Congress leader and Sanjay Dutt’s sister has reacted to allegations against Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Sanju being a PR exercise for the troubled actor. In an interview to News 18, Priya said that it was important to remember that Sanju is a film, and the makers decided to portray the most important bits of Sanjay’s life in it.

Priya also said that the Rajkumar Hirani film did not portray Sanjay as a hero at all. According to her, Sanjay was not shown as a victim of circumstances in the film.

He (Sanjay) was not a victim of circumstances. He made a lot of bad decisions and the film shows that. ‘Sanju’ shows him with his flaws. I think the film will serve to warn youngsters from making such decisions - my brother is an icon.

There has been a lot of debate about how the Sanjay Dutt biopic whitewashes the actor’s image and leaves out key elements of his life from the Rajkumar Hirani film.

RSS’ official newspaper, Panchjanya criticised Sanju for attempting to whitewash Sanjay Dutt’s image in the 1993 Mumbai bomb blast case. In the article titled ‘Kirdaar Daagdaar’ (Tainted Character), RSS questioned the intent of the filmmaker about wanting to paint a rosy picture of Sanjay Dutt, and if Hirani merely wanted to mint money at the box-office with the film.
