It’s hardly news. Thousands of Shah Rukh Khan fans congregate outside the star’s Bandra residence every year for a glimpse of the star on his birthday. And this year, it’s no different. But what ruined the moment for many today, including The Quint’s journalist Abira Dhar, was the rather uncontrollable crowd outside Shah Rukh Khan’s home. Dhar, who went for a live on Facebook from outside Mannat, was injured in a near-stampede.

Pushed to the ground, Dhar had people literally running over her.

Watch Dhar’s video here after the incident:

Dhar was offered assistance by a SRK fan, who pushed the charging people away and pulled her out of the stampede.

“The media was standing right opposite Mannat’s gate, near the road. We were waiting for Shah Rukh Khan. The crowd was behind us. Everything looked under control. When suddenly the crowd started running towards the gate which eventually blocked the road. I was caught in between.”

“So I started walking towards a comparatively less crowded area when suddenly the security, in a bid to control the crowd and clear the street, began beating their sticks on the ground. Everyone suddenly started running towards me. I fell down and there were people trampling all over me. The security had not seen me at all... the crowd was between us.”
“It was one of SRK’s fans - I don’t know who he is, I couldn’t even see his face - who saw me and came to my aid. He pushed people off me and held me till he could pull me out. It was a very scary experience. I got hurt and was suffocated and but I kept screaming till I got out. I couldn’t stop crying. I have never faced something like this.”

Meanwhile, even as people watched the LIVE on The Quint, there were appallingly nasty comments left on Facebook. Sample some here:

Condemning Abira’s career choices is exactly what she needs after being hurt in a stampede, isn’t it Deepali?
She has one Sean, that’s why she is trying to protect it.
