In an interview with HuffPost, Karan Johar stated the reason why he killed off Anushka Sharma’s character in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.

“He loved her so crazily. She could’ve loved him back, why couldn’t she? So she got cancer and she died,” said Karan.

People on social media are calling out the absurdity in his statement. Besides, pointing out the stark reality about how jilted lovers resort to stalking, acid attacks, rape threats and worse.

The filmmaker’s statement raises questions about how harassment and stalking is normalised in a culture that breeds unhealthy environments for women.

Many are just left dismayed at the warped romanticisation of one-sided love, which - in all honesty - is not new to Bollywood.

Karan, in the interview, also spoke about his views on guilt tripping someone who did not love you back.

“Oh, it’s a great feeling! I want to tell you that there is no right or wrong in the emotional half of a human being. This is how we behave and every emotion that can be faulted—jealousy or envy—the fact is that it exists,” said Karan to HuffPost.

Once again Bollywood, ‘no’ does NOT mean you can guilt trip a women into being with you.

No means no.
