We Discuss Kids: Madhuri on Working With Sanjay Dutt After 22 Yrs

Madhuri Dixit-Nene also spoke about her performance in song ‘Tabaah Ho Gaye’

After 22 years, Bollywood actors Madhuri Dixit-Nene and Sanjay Dutt will be reuniting on the big screen in upcoming period drama Kalank. Recently, in an interview with Mumbai Mirror, Madhuri Dixit-Nene opened up about working with Sanjay Dutt after more than two decades.

“We enjoy pulling each other’s leg. We both have kids now and discuss their education. It’s been great working with him again.”

We all can agree in unison that the on-screen pair that became immensely popular during the 1990s was Madhuri Dixit-Nene-Sanjay Dutt. The duo teamed up for nine films in the decade, and their chemistry was such a rage, that there were rumours of them being in a relationship. However, both actors have repeatedly denied this claim through the years.

Madhuri also revealed that when Karan Johar came to her with the character of Begum Bahaar, which was initially meant for late actor Sridevi, Madhuri said yes even before reading the script.

Recently, Madhuri’s song ‘Tabaah Ho Gaye’ was released by the makers of Kalank. The song is a refreshing reminder of Madhuri’s timeless dance moves for which she has always been known. Madhuri revealed that when she found out about the song, she knew the song needed Saroj Khan as she was the only one who could bring out the kind of emotions and depth needed. ‘Tabaah Ho Gaye’ is also one of the few Bollywood songs choreographed by two professionals - Saroj Khan and Remo D’souza.

Ever since the video of ‘Tabaah Ho Gaye’ dropped, fans haven’t stopped comparing Bahaar Begum to Chandramukhi from Devdas. However, Madhuri dismissed the speculations, making it clear that both the characters are very different. She described Chandramukhi’s character as “more giving and all heart” - something that Bahaar Begum is not.

According to her, Bahaar Begum is the kind who makes decisions without realising that those decisions will affect not just her, but everyone around her as well.

One of the most-awaited films of the year, Kalank also stars Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Sonakshi Sinha and Aditya Roy Kapur. It is a period film set in 1940s India. Kalank will release on 17 April.
