While Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone gear up for the Mumbai reception on 28 November, here’s a DeepVeer nugget that you’d appreciate if you especially like Kanjeevaram sarees.

K. Radharam, the Bengalaru-based design head of the in-house label Advaya, who helms Angadi Galleria is the hitmaker behind the saree that the Padmaavat star wore for the Konkani wedding ceremony at Lake Como, Italy. He is part of a family who has been involved in the textile business for 600 years!

Sabyasachi, who designed most of the looks, clarified that he has not designed Deepika’s Konkani wedding outfit. The designer went on to state that as per Konkani traditions, the bride’s outfit is given by her mother, Ujjala Padukone.

He also designed the metallic saree that the bride wore at the Bengaluru reception.

In Mumbai to contemplate participation in the imminent Lakmé Fashion Week, he told Mid-day, “We've received 400 requests for these two specific sarees since."

“The sari Deepika wore for her wedding is a real zari Kanjeevaram brocade. The body design is the Gandaberunda, a mythological two-headed bird which is part of the emblem of Karnataka. It represents prosperity and wisdom, i.e., material wealth and spiritual wealth. It is very symbolic for the bride to have chosen this sari,” the designer told The Quint.
