The nominations for the Grammy Awards 2020 released on 20 November. Among the long list of talented artistes was an unexpected name: Michelle Obama!

The former first lady of United States of America has been nominated for the prestigious music awards. She has been nominated in the category of best spoken word album, which includes poetry, audio books & storytelling. She has received the nom for the audio read of her book Becoming.

Michelle Obama also took to her social media to share the news.

She wrote, “So thrilled to receive a #GRAMMYs nomination! This past year has been such a meaningful, exhilarating ride. I’ve loved hearing your stories and continuing down the road of becoming together. Thank you for every ounce of love and support you’ve shared so generously. #IAmBecoming”

Others who have been nominated in the same category include I.V. Catatonia: 20 Years as a Two-time Cancer Survivor by Eric Alexandrakis, Mr. Know-It-All by John Waters, Sekou Andrews & the String Theory by Sekou Andrews & The String Theory, and Beastie Boys Book.

Previously, Michele Obama’s husband and former President of the USA, Barack Obama has also won twice in the same category. In 2006, he won it for his audio book recordings Dreams of My Father and then again in 2008, for his audiobook The Audacity of Hope. If Michelle Obama takes home this Grammy, then it will be the third for the Obamas.

Apart from that, American singer Lizzo is leading Grammy nominations.

Her song ‘Truth Hurts’ became a viral hit in 2019. Lizzo has a total of eight nominations in her pocket. Lizzo has won in many categories including album of the year, record of the year, song of the year and best new artist. ‘Truth Hurts’ is also in line for best pop solo performance. She is followed by Billie Eilish and Lil Nas X, who have six nominations e ach.
