‘Most Kids Want to Follow in Parents’ Footsteps’: Esha Deol on Nepotism Debate

Esha Deol talks about her upcoming film 'Tumko Meri Kasam' and the weirdest rumour she heard about herself.

Actor Esha Deol sat down with The Quint to talk about her film ‘Tumko Meri Kasam’, her career, growing up with famous parents, and more.

When talking about her childhood, Deol said, “We've had a very down-to-earth upbringing and I think they deliberately overdid it with us. It happens. When your parents are famous and they see so much around them, they don't want that to affect their child. They want the child to work hard and achieve it.”

Talking about the early days of her career, the actor revealed, “When my first film released, I was 18.” Deol made her acting debut with ‘Koi Mere Dil Se Poochhe’.

“The reviews straight away started comparing me to my mother who is a legend, ‘Dream Girl’ with 200 films to her name. Of course, they spoke about my baby fat also. I was very upset and I went up to my mom and said that they're comparing me to her. She told me, ‘I am also new to this but if you feel this will mentally affect you then stop. If you feel this is what you want to do then continue.’”

When asked about the weirdest rumour she heard about herself back in the day, Deol said, “I was linked to a lot of my co-stars. Some may be true but the ones that were not….they were trying to link me with Ajay (Devgn). Ajay and I have a very beautiful bond and it's a very different bond filled with respect and admiration. That was so weird.”
