Recently, the media and fans of Rishi Kapoor were sent into a frenzy after wife Neetu Kapoor's shared a cryptic New Year’s post on her Instagram. Neetu posted a family picture with Rishi, Ranbir, Riddhima Kapoor and Ranbir’s girlfriend Alia Bhatt in New York with the caption that included, "Hope in future cancer is only a zodiac sign." The line led many to speculate that Rishi was undergoing treatment for cancer.

Rishi's brother Randhir Kapoor was asked for an update by a leading publication and his response was positive without confirming any details, saying that he expected Rishi to come back to India soon.

I don’t know much about it but this much I can tell you that [Rishi] is doing well. Let people say whatever they want to. That he is doing well is evident from the photo that I, too, have seen. He is having a good time with everyone and has stepped out to enjoy a good meal. He will soon be coming back to India. We are looking forward to that right now,

Back in September 2018, Rishi had announced on Twitter that he was travelling to the US for treatment of an undisclosed illness. The 66-year-old actor asked his fans and followers “not to worry or unnecessarily speculate” and added that the treatment was simply for “45 years plus of wear and tear at the movies”. Rishi was last seen in the Netflix original Rajma Chawal directed by Leena Yadav.
