In a new interview, Deepika Padukone responded to what appears to be a comment Salman Khan made about depression without naming the Bharat star.

The Chhapaak star has been an advocate for awareness about depression ever since she opened up about suffering from the illness in 2015. Since then, other Bollywood heavy weights like Karan Johar and Ali Bhatt have shared their own stories about depression.

In a new interview in Vogue magazine, once again Deepika spoke at length about her battle with depression.

“The word that best describes <a href="https://www.vogue.in/magazine-story/deepika-padukone-bollywood-celebrity-february-2018-vogue-cover-story-depression/">my experience of depression</a> is struggle. Every second was a struggle. I felt exhausted the whole time.”

Deepika also made a point to respond to a flippant remark by another star.

“People confuse it with being a bit sad. A male star said recently that he didn’t have the luxury to be depressed. As if depression is a choice!”

The male star Deepika is referring to appears to be Salman Khan, who in a February 2018 interview with IANS claimed that he “couldn’t afford the luxury of depression.”

“I see a lot of people going on vacations, but I cannot afford that luxury of taking a vacation. I see a lot of people getting depressed and emotional, but I can’t afford that luxury of being depressed or sad or emotional because no matter what I am going through, it works against me,”

Deepika will next been seen in the role of an acid attack survivor in Meghna Gulzar’s Chhapaak. She also plays the role of Romi Dev in the sports biopic 83, which will be her first on screen reunion with husband Ranveer Singh after their wedding.
