Chris Hemsworth Reveals Why He Named His Daughter After India

Hollywood actor Chris Hemsworth, popularly known for playing the onscreen role of superhero Thor, is a big fan of India. So much so that he has even named his daughter after the country. India Rose Hemsworth is currently 7 years old.

When asked about why he named his daughter after an Asian country so far from his homeland, here’s what he had to say:

“My wife (Elsa Pataky) spent lot of time in India and that was where the name originally came from,”

Chris told this to IANS during a group interview while promoting his Sony Pictures’ project Men in Black: International.

Chris and Elsa also have twin sons Sasha and Tristan.

Chris had visited India in 2018 to shoot for his Netflix film Dhaka. As a part of the shoot schedule he visited Ahmadabad and Mumbai. He said that his experience of filming in India was “sort of intimidating as it was exciting” because of the number of people involved.

“I love the place and the people. Shooting there... There were thousands of people on the streets every day and I have never experienced that on set. It was sort of intimidating as it was exciting because there were so many people.”

"After every take (when the director) called 'cut', there was loud cheer. We felt like rock stars in a stadium. But the warmth and support we got while shooting there, no matter how disruptive we were to their daily lives, it was so good. People were so positive. I have huge appreciation to that," Chris added.

During the interview, Chris also hinted at possibly working in Indian movies in the future. "I was talking to a few about that...So maybe," he said.

At the moment, Hemsworth is excited to take forward the legacy of the Men In Black franchise with Men in Black: International. Sony Pictures Entertainment India will release the film in India on 14 June in Hindi, English, Tamil and Telugu.
