Yash Raj Films’ War, starring the action duo Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff, hit the big screen across India on 2 October. The film has done swift business over two days earning Rs 23.10 crore on day 2, bringing its box office collection to Rs 74.70 crore. The Tamil and Telugu versions take the total earnings of War so far up to Rs 77.70 crore.

According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the film is expected to pick up over the weekend. Following its initial success, between 150 and 200 extra screenings are being added.

Adarsh noted that War surpassed the opening day collection of both Salman Khan’s Bharat as well as Akshay Kumar’s Mission Mangal by raking in Rs 53.35 crore. So far, War is Bollywood’s biggest opener ever. It released on 4,000 screens across India in three languages - Hindi, Tamil, Telugu.

One of the most anticipated action-thrillers of 2019, War is the story of an Indian soldier, Khalid (Tiger), who is assigned to eliminate a senior agent and his mentor Kabir (Hrithik) as he has gone rogue. It is directed by Siddharth Anand and also stars Vaani Kapoor.

Even before the release of the film, trade analysts expected it to do well on the first day. Film trade analyst Atul Mohan had put the day one figure at around Rs 40 crore. Clearly, War has surpassed that expectation by a huge margin. It has even crossed the opening day collection of YRF’s Thugs of Hindostan by a margin, despite having a lower screen count.

Previously, two songs from War have been released. The first song is titled ‘Ghungroo’ and features Hrithik’s iconic dance moves. It also features Vaani Kapoor. Hrithik and Vaani Kapoor groove to the beats of the song. ‘Ghungroo’ borrows a couple of lines from Pankaj Udhas’ gazal ‘Ghungroo Toot Gaye’, and adds a new twist to it. The lines are, “Main itna zor se naachi aj ke ghungroo toot gaye.” ‘Ghungroo’ is composed by Vishal and Shekhar and sung by Arijit Singh and Shilpa Rao.

The second song is titled ‘Jai Jai Shivshankar’ and the catchy track has been composed by Vishal Shekhar and performed by Vishal Dadlani and Benny Dayal. The colourful video sees both actors pull off some nimble dance moves on a larger-than-life sized set of drums before coming together with Tiger matching Hrithik step for step.
