An Honest Review (Or Two) of the ‘Veere Di Wedding’ Trailer

If you are a fan of the Kapoor girls, this might hurt a bit.

After being forced to watch the trailer of Veere Di Wedding over and over again by the slave-driver my editor, here is my honest opinion about the film’s trailer. If you’re a die-hard Kareena/ Sonam Kapoor fan, you might not want to read ahead. Otherwise, do read on.

Have a look at the trailer first:

Yeh film ki lene ke liye degree nahi chahiye.

Even though the film is being touted as #imnotaCHICKflick, it most certainly is a chick flick. Veere Di Wedding feels like an amalgamation of all seasons (and both films) of Sex And the City along with Sonam Kapoor’s inability to act, though I agree that she did competently pull off Neerja. Then there is the gossip-mafia of Bollywood, Kareena Kapoor Khan. Clearly it seems that the script of this film was written after that one Koffee With Karan episode where she coined the term ‘gossip-mafia’. Styled meticulously after Carrie Bradshaw, she too is a let-down, considering her otherwise awesome screen presence.

I wish I was high, uncle. 

Unfortunately, Swara Bhasker is lost in this trailer. After the air-headed heiresses of Bollywood have had their share of limelight, Swara Bhasker gets one line in, which, in my honest opinion, is the most bad-a** line in the trailer. Such talent, much wasted. Shikha Talsania, too, suffers a similar fate, though with a few more punch-lines.

Why doesn’t the film revolve around this one sentence? 

However here’s a clashing opinion, that of a close friend and peer. It was on his recommendation that I even bothered to watch the trailer.

I liked it! It is refreshing to see that they’ve done away with the typical hero-heroine approach. Of all four actors, I felt Kareena was the one who stood out, as she is the highlight with a touch of comedy added to her performance. Also, how many times do you have a film where such peak female bonding is at the forefront of the plot? We’ve seen a lot of films that have male-bonding as a theme, but rarely do you see a film with four female leads.
