CBFC Objects to Babri Masjid and Other Scenes in ‘Thackeray’

The Central Board of Film Certification has raised objections to four scenes and two dialogues in the upcoming biopic Thackeray, according to reports by ANI. Directed by Abhijit Panse and produced by Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut, the film follows the story of the late Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray, who is portrayed by Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
Reports suggest that a particular scene dealing with the Babri Masjid controversy and a dialogue that allegedly is a slur against South Indians are among the content that the board has taken issue to.
Speaking about the proposed cuts, ANI quoted Sanjay Raut as saying, “Yes, they have raised objections on some dialogues and scenes, four dialogues and two scenes to be precise. We are legally dealing the matter with CBFC and we hope the matter will be sorted out soon.”
Nawazuddin Siddiqui took to Twitter to share a picture of him in character ahead of the film’s trailer launch on 26 December.
“I am super excited to play a character like Bal Thackeray on screen. Yes, I got to know about CBFC cuts but I can't speak much about it. Playing Bal Thackeray is like a dream and I am very happy about it," he said to Times Now when asked to comment on the CBFC’s decision.

Thackeray also stars Amrita Rao as Meena Tai Thackeray. The film releases in Hindi and Marathi on 25 January, 2019.
