When it comes to Bollywood, it’s never possible to zero in on what makes a film work at the box office. You might have the most successful formula in your hands that sinks, and the one project everyone warned you about becomes a blockbuster.

Take Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety for instance. Starring Sunny Singh, Kartik Aaryan and Nushrat Bharucha, the lighthearted war-of-the-sexes film raked in a whopping Rs 82.10 crore by week 3. It even beat Akshay Kumar’s PadMan to become the second highest grosser of 2018 - right after Padmaavat. Now it has hit another milestone. The Kartik Aaryan starrer has now crossed the 100 cr mark in the fourth week of its release.

And it continues its smashing run at the box-office. Even with new releases - Rani Mukerji’s Hichki and Tiger Shroff-Disha Patani’s Baaghi 2 - the film has managed to hold its own. After five weeks since its release, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety has made Rs 106.77 crore at the box-office.

And you don’t really know why the audience liked Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety this much. You have Titu crying over his girlfriend and Sonu ranting about her and women in general in his signature style. When Titu meets Sweety, his instant attraction towards her and Sonu's immediate dislike for her give us a clear trajectory of which way this film will go.

In other words, it’s predictable as hell even as it throws up a few laughs and discourses on how misogynistic Bollywood is. While some are citing Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety as harmless fun, others are calling out its portrayal of all women as controlling and villainous.

But be it as it may, there’s no denying that the Luv Ranjan film is clicking with the audience.
