It was a double first for Mumbai’s iconic Maratha Mandir. The theatre has been running shows of the Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol-starrer Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) for the past two decades. But on Tuesday (18 July), for the first time in 22 years, the film’s matinee show was cancelled for the trailer launch of Shraddha Kapoor’s Haseena Parker. It’s also the first time a trailer has been launched at this venue.

The film is a biopic on gangster Dawood Ibrahim’s sister, Haseena Parkar, also known as ‘Queen of Mumbai’. According to Hindustan Times, the makers of Haseena felt that it would be a suitable launch venue for the film’s trailer as the gangster lived in nearby Dongri.

Actors Siddhant Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor and Ankur Bhatia, along with director Apoorva Lakhia, attended the trailer launch.

The filmmakers approached me with the idea and said they would pay equivalent to a houseful show. I ran the idea past Yash Raj Films (producers of DDLJ), who agreed and that is how this was planned.

Tagged at Rs 15 - Rs 20, the DDLJ shows mostly sees a packed theatre, especially during weekends. The shows have resumed from Wednesday.
