In a documentary for filmmaker Yasmin Kidwai, actor Shah Rukh Khan has said that “being diverse is a good thing and being divisive is not”. The star was speaking about the religious and cultural diversity of India and also said that like art has no religion, India too has no religion but is an amalgamation of several difference religious faiths. Commenting on the the pluralistic tradition and culture of India, this is what SRK had to say in the short video shared by Kidwai on Twitter:

“1600 languages and dialects in our country, and every 10 kilometres or 15 kilometres the dialect changes. I don’t know how many hundreds of religions co-exist here, being diverse is a good thing, being divisive is not. Like, art has no religion and I think our country really has no religion and all of them amalgamated together, India is a beautiful painting and all colours just enhance each other, and you take away one colour or start saying this colour is better than the other, I think the painting is not a painting anymore.”

Shah Rukh Khan’s quote was later picked up by the Congress Party, which tweeted the actor’s video with the message that, “.@iamsrk echoes what the Congress Party has been saying for many years now. India is one nation, made glorious by it's diversity.”

Meanwhile, SRK also got a pat on his back from PM Narendra Modi for producing and featuring in a video that encouraged people to go out and vote.

Trust SRK to keep everyone happy.
