Just two days before the release of the Sanjay Dutt biopic, Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma starrer ‘Sanju’ has courted controversy after a complaint was filed by the National Commission of Women against the co-stars as well as the director, Rajkumar Hirani, for the alleged use of derogatory remarks against sex workers in the trailer of the film, according to ANI.

In a scene from the trailer, Anushka Sharma who plays the role of a journalist asks Ranbir Kapoor a.k.a Sanju about his former girlfriends, to which Kapoor replies saying, “308, without counting the prostitutes".

The comment was not received well by the sex workers who felt that the term had been used in a disrespectful manner. Sharma, Kapoor or Hirani are yet to respond to the complaint.

Co-produced by Vinod Chopra Films and Rajkumar Hirani Films in association with Fox Star Studios, ‘Sanju’ is based on the life of actor Sanjay Dutt.

The film boasts of an ensemble cast which includes Anushka Sharma, Sonam Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, Manisha Koirala, Jim Sarbh, Vicky Kaushal, Boman Irani, Dia Mirza and Karishma Tanna, and is all set to release on 29 June.
