Saif’s the Reason Why Kareena Auditioned for ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’
Kareena Kapoor has never auditioned for films before Laal Singh Chaddha.
Kareena Kapoor Khan has completed close to 20 years in Bollywood, and do you know that she has never auditioned for a film? At a time when thousands of people are struggling to get a break in the industry, the actor explains why she hasn’t auditioned, how Saif is the reason she actually took the first step for Laal Singh Chaddha and more:
Not all stars are really comfortable auditioning, especially at this point in their careers. But you did that for ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’. Were you hesitant?
Kareena Kapoor: I have said it even in my earlier interviews that I would never audition and in 20 years, nobody had ever told me that you have to read these two scenes. But I think that even if it was for Hollywood or anybody, I don’t think I would have auditioned. But I have auditioned only because it’s Aamir Khan. Because I know what his potential is, and I know his intent.
How good are you at dealing with rejections because you just said you don’t audition generally, right?
Kareena Kapoor: No, I don’t think the concept was there at all. In fact, when Saif told me and I told him, ‘Listen this is what it is’, he said, ‘But what is the big deal? We all should do it, in fact actors should audition for their parts’.

Kareena Kapoor: Al Pacino, they are all auditioning. They don’t get a part unless you have auditioned.
So, what is the big deal about not auditioning?
Kareena Kapoor: In fact, Saif said that ‘if actors like you also start doing it here then it will be better. So, you should tell Aamir that I’ll do it’. And that’s why I kind of said okay, fine, let’s do it. Why not?
