While Simmba, which released in December, has been a roaring success at the box office and Gully Boy hits theatres on 14 February, Ranveer Singh is prepping for his next film, 83, which is based on India’s historic win at the 1983 Cricket World Cup. The actor is set to essay the role of former Indian cricket team skipper Kapil Dev in the sports film.

In an interview to an online portal, director Kabir Khan said that Ranveer would undergo intensive training for his role with the help from legends from the ’83 team such as Kapil Dev, Madan Lal and Yashpal Sharma.

“Different expert cricketers are coming — KapilDev sir, Madan Lal sir, Yashpal sir and all the 83 cricketers will come. It’s loads of fun. It’s like boot camp, we train for 3 hours: physical and skills training and establishing different styles,” he said.

The film is expected to go on floors in May and will be shot mostly in London with a few parts in India.

Ranveer had earlier shared a glimpse of himself practising at the nets.

83 is slated for release in 2020.
