Ranveer Singh has wrapped his shoot of ’83, wherein he plays Kapil Dev who led the Indian cricket team to victory in the 1983 World Cup. Now, he has another film in his kitty, Jayeshbhai Jordaar. The first look from the film, directed by debutant Divyang Thakkar, has been unveiled today and Ranveer looks every bit convincing as a Gujarati boy.

The photo shows him in a fix, as he apparently tries to shield some women from a threatening situation. Ranveer also seems to have lost a lot of weight for the role.

Speaking about his character, Ranveer told Hindustan Times, “Jayeshbhai is an ordinary man who does something extraordinary when he is hurled into a threatening situation. He believes in equal rights between men and women. The film talks about how judgemental society is about women.”

Ranveer also said that playing Jayeshbhai was a challenge for him. “I had to transform into a kind of character I have never inhabited before,” he said, adding that Divyang has made sure that the audience introspects even while laughing their hearts out.

Jayeshbhai Jordaar will be produced by Yash Raj Films. Ranveer’s debut film Band Baaja Baaraat too was a Yash Raj Films production directed by Maneesh Sharma himself. On working with Singh again, Maneesh had earlier said, “Almost a decade ago, we started our journey together when YRF placed their faith in us newcomers and today we collaborate with another new talent to offer the audiences a content driven mass entertainer.”
