Why, you ask? Well, here’s proof: Raghubir Yadav has been a part of seven Bollywood movies that have been nominated for the Oscars!
Newton was his 8th nomination. If Yadav isn’t keeping count, we are. Here are the trailers of his previous movies that have been nominated for the prestigious Academy Awards.
Salaam Bombay
In the film, Raghubir plays a drug pusher and addict, and the actor does a remarkable job in playing the realistic character.
Rudaali
Rudaali is a simple story set in a sleepy village that’s plagued by superstitions and steeped in traditions. It follows the life of an apparently “cursed” widow named Shanichari, played by Dimple Kapadia. Raghubir Yadav plays the role of her son in the film, and possesses the same wandering spirit like his mother. Rudaali was selected as the Indian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 66th Academy Awards, but was, eventually, not accepted as a nominee.
Lagaan
Aamir Khan’s sports-drama film, Lagaan is among Indian cinema’s critically acclaimed films. The film, set in the Victorian period of India’s British Raj, is about Bhuvan’s (Aamir Khan) quest to eliminate double tax in his village by winning a game of cricket against the British. Among his team is Raghubir Yadav, a poultry farmer who helps him win the all-important match.

Earth (released in India as 1947: Earth) was India's entry for Best Foreign Language Film in 1999 at the Academy Awards.
Bandit Queen
Bandit Queen is a 1994 Indian biographical film based on the life of Phoolan Devi and was selected as the Indian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 67th Academy Awards, but was not accepted as a nominee.
Peepli Live
Peepli Live is an Indian satirical comedy film that explores the topic of farmer suicides. The film stars Naseeruddin Shah, Raghubir Yadav, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Shalini Vatsa and Malaika Shenoy along with a number of newcomers.
Water
Water is a 2005 Indo-Canadian film written and directed by Deepa Mehta and explores the lives of widows at an ashram in Varanasi. Raghubir Yadav plays the role of a pimp (named Gulabi) in the film.
