Om Puri’s Last Film ‘Mr Kabaadi’ Is an Insult to His Memory

‘Mr Kabaadi’ isn’t exactly what we want to remember as Om Puri’s last film.

The immensely talented Om Puri’s untimely death in January this year left Bollywood and India’s film going audience in shock. However, Mr Kabaadi - a film that’s being promoted as “Om Puri’s last film” could shock his fans even further and looks like a complete disgrace to the inimitably intense actor’s memory.

Directed by his first wife Seema Kapoor, Mr Kabaadi features Puri in a cameo, while the main roles are shared between Annu Kapoor (Seema’s brother), Vinay Pathak and Sarika. Going by the trailer, Mr Kabaadi looks like a B-grade lowbrow attempt to raise laughs with shit and fart jokes abound. I’ll be surprised if it’s actually a small gem that’s just got a badly cut promo.

What’s more, the film is produced by none other than ‘bhajan samraat’ Anup Jalota and Sadhna TV.

Thankfully, Om Puri seems to have made only an obligatory special appearance in Mr Kabaadi since the trailer hardly boasts of a couple of shots of the National Award winning actor along with a cringe-worthy dialogue. Compared to this, we would rather happily remember Om Puri for his act as Banne Chacha in Kabir Khan’s flickering Tubelight.
