Mission Mangal Crosses 200 Cr at BO, Becomes Highest I-Day Earner

It is Akshay Kumar’s first film to enter the Rs 200 cr club.

Mission Mangal, based on the true story of India’s successful launch of the Mars Orbiter Mission, hit theatres on 15 August. It stars Vidya Balan, Akshay Kumar, Taapsee Pannu, Sonakshi Sinha, Kirti Kulhari, Nithya Menen and Sharman Joshi. The movie has registered very well with the audience and done wonders at the box office. In its fourth week of release, the film has crossed the Rs 200 crore mark, earning a total of Rs 200.16 crore.

This is also makes it Akshay Kumar’s highest earner ever, and his first to cross Rs 200 crore. Akshay shared a fan created video to commemorate the occasion, and wrote, “This is such a lovely creative Bhushan...our film, Mission Mangal just like this jigsaw puzzle came together with every piece fitting in perfectly and with your love & appreciation reached the 200 crores milestone”

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared news on Twitter, writing, “#MissionMangal sets another new benchmark in #India: Becomes highest grossing #IndependenceDay release, surpassing #EkThaTiger... Fox Star Studios' third film to cross ₹ 200 cr mark: #Sanju [₹ 342.53 cr], #PremRatanDhanPayo [₹ 210.16 cr] and now, #MissionMangal [₹ 200.16 cr].”

Mission Mangal is the fourth quickest film of 2019 to enter Rs 200 crore club.

Directed by Jagan Shakti and produced by R Balki, Mission Mangal is inspired by ISRO's Mars Orbiter Mission, or Mangalyaan, which was launched in 2013 making India the first Asian nation to reach Mars’ orbit and the first in the world to do it in it inaugural try.
