Recently, Mental Hai Kya has run into a lot of controversy as it was supposed to clash with Hrithik Roshan-starrer Super 30. The makers of Mental Hai Kya had shifted their film’s release date from 21 June, the same day Super 30 was supposed to release. However, the latter got a new release date and will hit theatres on 12 July, two weeks earlier than originally planned.
According to a report by Asian Age, sources were quoted as saying that Kangana Ranaut wasn’t happy with her character arc after she saw the footage. “She also felt Rajkummar Rao got more prominence in a lot of scenes. Kangana wanted to re-shoot those scenes”, the source said.
However, director Prakash Kovelamudi has refuted all these claims.
He said that Kangana is very professional and there is no truth to the rumours. “Kangana is a professional actor and a creative asset. I have enjoyed working with Kangana and Rajkummar. I am happy as to how their characters have been shaped”, Prakash said in a statement.
Denying reports that some portions of the film have been re-shot, the director added, “We finished shooting the first leg in Mumbai, the second one in London and the final one in Mumbai again. We wrapped up shooting of Mental Hai Kya last month. All other conjecture is baseless.”
Amidst rumours that postponing the release of Mental Hai Kya was a deliberate request on the part of Kangana Ranaut, the producers, Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Motion Pictures, issued a statement clarifying that the decision was “purely for the business prospects” and that they would ensure no mud-slinging would arise out of pitting the two films against each other.
Hrithik Roshan, however, decided to go ahead an shift the release date of Super 30 anyway saying in a statement on social media that he wished to save it from being “desecrated by yet another media circus”. “I have decided to shift the release date of my film Super 30 in order to save myself from the personal trauma and toxic mental violence this would cause,” he added.
Earlier too, Kangana has had fallouts with directors. There were rumours that Kangana interfered with Hansal Mehta’s Simran. Similar speculations surfaced when Manikarnika director Krrish quit the project.
