Review: Netflix’s ‘Once Again’ Is a Love Letter to Shefali Shah

For a film that relies heavily on telephonic conversation to build the chemistry between its leads, Once Again directed by Kanwal Sethi soars in its moments of silence that heave with small intimacies. It’s in these moments that the camera evocatively explores fleeting emotions conveyed by Shefali Shah, barely visible to the eyes yet deeply felt. She’s the beating heart of this film which could have benefitted from a tighter plot.

Ritesh Batra has almost cemented his credentials as the contemporary master storyteller, unpacking nuances of middle-age romance with films like The Lunchboxand Our Souls at Night. With these precedents, Once Again is like deja vu that shares the same connective tissue. It may not be formulaic but the premise follows a familiar template of mature romance.

Hannah Gadsby Reads SRK’s ‘Sweet Tweet’ On Netflix’s ‘Nanette’

Hannah Gadsby’s searing stand-up special, Nanette, appeared on Netflix on 19 June and has since become one of the most talked about comedy specials of all time. In the wake of the #MeToo movement, Gadsby’s hour-long special offers modest laughs - but more importantly - deals with the sexism, homophobia and assault that she has dealt with in her own life.

Celebrities and influences across the globe have been talking about the show since it dropped on the streaming service. So Netflix India got the comedian to read out some of the praises that have been heaped on Hannah Gadsby: Nanette.

Oh, Shah Rukh Khan’s tweet also made it to the list. Check it out.

Review: No Place for Love (Or a Good Man) in Netflix’s ‘Love and Shukla’

As I zip through Mumbai’s highways at midnight after a late work shift, I often see couples - of all ages - sitting on the edge of the pavements, deep in conversation or simply taking in the night air. The sea promenade is too far and there’s clearly not room enough for a quiet tete-a-tete at home.

Siddartha Jatla’s Love and Shukla, streaming on Netflix after a festival run including Busan and Palm Springs and the prestigious NETPAC Award at Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival, dropped me almost in the middle of such a couple. The film, starring Saharsh Kumar Shukla and Taneea Rajawat in the lead roles, revolves around the struggles of an autorickshaw driver to get intimate with his newly wedded wife in the cramped space he shares with his family.
