Sara Ali Khan and Sushant Singh Rajput’s Kedarnath took a healthy start at the box office. The film earned Rs 17 crore on day two, showing an upward trend. As per trade analyst Taran Adarsh, it was set to gather further momentum on Sunday, 9 December. But the Sara Ali Khan film didn’t witness substantial growth. On Day 3, the collections stood at Rs 27.75 cr and on day 8, it continued its steady run at the box office.
Even as the visual extravaganza Aquaman released, the film holds it own standing at Rs 54.21 cr.
While the film’s storyline has been uneven, the performance by debutante Sara Ali Khan has been lauded by critics.
The Quint’s reviewer Stutee Ghosh says that, “Kedarnath is a simply told, heartfelt love story that’s just 2 hours long. And yet in portions one wanted to scream out loud – “get on with it guys” – to speed up the proceedings. The fault, I’ve realised doesn’t lie in the film but in the trailer. I don’t know who comes up with these but this practice of revealing the original plan must stop because the film then seems like regurgitating details we already know.”
The Sara Ali Khan-Sushant Rajput starrer film will not be released in the hill state of Uttarakhand, an official said on Friday.
While there has be no official ban on the film by the state government, it has written to all district magistrates (DMs) about the film and the controversies surrounding it. It has asked the DMs to take a call on their own and has left it to their discretion whether or not the film should be released in their respective jurisdictions.
