Watch: Karan Johar Apologises for Upsetting ‘Sairat’ Fans

Actors Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter, producer Karan Johar, and writer-director Shashank Khaitan celebrated the success of their Sairat adaptation, Dhadak at a press conference today. Despite receiving mixed reviews, the film did wonders at the box office. Its first day collections of Rs 8.71 cr surpassed that of Student of the Year, making it the highest opening for a film starring newcomers. As of today, the total stands at Rs 48.01 cr.

Naturally, this success calls for a celebration. At the press conference, Karan Johar expressed his gratitude for the success of the film and also apologised to Sairat fans for upsetting them, saying Dhadak was a homage to Sairat and it cannot be compared.

“We tried to give our own heartbeat to <i>Sairat</i>. Our box office has given us so much love.”

Meanwhile, Ishaan recognised the mixed response towards the film, but appreciated any and all reactions.

“I am very happy with all the love. I am happy with all the hate.”

As for debutant Janhvi, this was an amazing first film for her to have, and she too could not be happier about the success of Dhadak.
