On its opening day, the Irrfan-starrer Hindi Medium amassed a staggering Rs 24.31 crore at the box office in China. It beat Salman Khan's Bajrangi Bhaijaan (Rs 14.61 crore) and Aamir Khan's Dangal (Rs 12.99 crore) by transcending their first day collections in the country.

The Saket Chaudhary directorial, produced by T-Series Films and Maddock Films, also stars Pakistani actress Saba Qamar. A sequel to the film is slated to be directed by Homi Adajania.

Thanks to Aamir Khan, China has emerged as a major market for Indian films. Dangal raked in Rs. 1000 crore. Secret Superstar was not a blockbuster back home but it made Rs 200-crore mark within the first four days of its release in the neighbouring country.
