Akshaye Khanna plays Sanjaya Baru, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s media adviser in The Accidental Prime Minister. A political film, the Anupam Kher starrer is in the grip of controversy. The trailer has raked up talk about the film's portrayal of a political party and has raised questions on whether the filmmaker has a political agenda. “Look, what you call controversy, I am calling a debate and in a democratic country, the debate should be on,” Khanna recently said in an IANS interview.

Before this biopic hits screens, here’s some news on the other biopic that Akshaye Khanna missed being a part of. Rajkumar Hirani offered Khanna the role of Sunil Dutt in Sanju - the biggest hit of 2018.

Khanna told Deccan Chronicle that he failed to pass the look test and expressed regret about not being a part of the film.

“Raj Kumar Hirani and I had a couple of meetings. In spite of innumerable ‘look tests’, I was a misfit in that character. So I missed out on working with him in the biopic. I feel sad at not being able to work in ‘Sanju’ after being bestowed upon with a chance to be the part of the film. He (Raju Hirani) is such an incredible and brilliant storyteller,” he said.
