Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana will be seen on screen for the first time in Shoojit Sircar’s upcoming comedy Gulabo Sitabo. The Badhaai Ho actor took to Twitter to share the news writing, “@SrBachchan sir aur meri jodi, ekdum #GulaboSitabo si hogi. Really excited to be a part of this project by my mentor @ShoojitSircar! In cinemas this November.”

Shoojit Sircar has previously worked with Ayushmann in 2012’s Vicky Donor and directed Amitabh Bachchan in Piku in 2015.

Gulabo Sitabo is a family comedy by Juhi Chaturvedi, who has written for the above titles as well as Varun Dhawan-starrer October. It will go on floors in June and is expected to release in November.

“Juhi and I have been working on this script for a while now. We all know whenever she comes up with a story, it has her trademark quirk. As soon as I read it, I shared it with Mr Bachchan and Ayushmann at the same time. I thought it would take some time to develop and take it forward but everyone was so enthusiastic to work on this script, they figured out their dates and here we are, planning to release the film this year itself,” said Sircar in a statement.

According to Sircar, the film’s name is borrowed from a term colloquially used in Uttar Pradesh that refers to traditional papier mache puppets. The story follows the tale of a man, his overworked wife Sitabo and his mistress, Gulabo.

Shoojit Sircar’s biopic on Udham Singh, starring Vicky Kaushal, is currently in production. Ayushmann will be seen opposite Bhumi Pednekar and Yami Gautam in Bala and recently wrapped up filming Anubhav Sinha’s Article 15. Amitabh Bachchan has begun shooting with Emraan Hashmi for Chehre, a thriller directed by Rumi Jeffery.
