The release of Alia Bhatt-Ranbir Kapoor starrer Brahmastra has been postponed. According to director Ayan Mukerji, the film, which was supposed to release on Christmas this year, will now hit theatres during summer 2020.

In a note posted on Instagram, Ayan explained that the reason for the change in dates was because the VFX team required more time to work on the film.

Brahmastra is a dream that began for me in 2011, and I've been actively pursuing it since Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani released in 2013. That dream is about creating a movie that offers our country something that's really new and amazing and next level in terms of story, characters and emotions, always, but also in terms of visual and visual effects,” he wrote.

Incidentally, had Brahmastra release on 25 December, it would have clashed with another big ticket film – Salman Khan’s Dabangg 3, which hits theatres on 20 December.

Directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, Brahmastra is a fantasy adventure film that stars Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan. The logo was launched in March in a light and sound show at the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh by the cast and crew. About 150 drones were launched to form various displays, including the Indian flag, the film’s title and its logo in the sky. A small puja was also held to commemorate the occasion.

Ayan had earlier shared a picture of Alia and Ranbir from the sets of the film while they were shooting in Israel. “It marked the beginning of Ranbir and Alia working together and getting to know each other,” he wrote in the caption.

He has also revealed details about Ranbir’s character in the film saying that he was originally called Rumi, which was then changed to Shiva. Ranbir reportedly plays a DJ who leaves home against his father’s wishes and discovers he has superpowers along the way.
