Leading Bollywood filmmakers and producers, including Aamir Khan, Rajkumar Hirani, Siddharth Roy Kapur, Aanand L Rai, Ritesh Sidhwani, Maulik Bhagat and Mahaveer Jain, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on Tuesday.
According to a report by DNA, the agenda of the meeting was to acknowledge and discuss the role of the Indian film industry in contributing to the economic growth of the nation. It is one of the largest in the world and has gained great global significance. The day to day issues faced by those who work in the industry were allegedly discussed and a course for redressal for the same was sought. A source was also quoted as saying that the prime minister had agreed to set up a special team to look into the matters discussed.
Many have criticized the lack of female representation in the panel, especially in the wake of the #MeToo movement that’s currently sweeping Bollywood.
Writer Mahima Kukreja, who called out comedian Utsav Chakraborty for sexual harassment and has been one of the women driving India’s #MeToo movement, pointed out the absence of any female voices in the delegation on Twitter.
Celebrity hairstylist Sapna Bhavnani was direct with her criticism.
Screenwriter Shilpa Rathnam and Buzzfeed India’s Srishti Dixit shared their views as well.
