It’s a big day for those who are taking a National Award home. The celebs share their happiness with The Quint.

Pankaj Tripathi

Pankaj Tripathi won a Special Mention Award at the 65th National Awards for his role of a CRPF Officer in Netwon, and the actor couldn’t be happier!

I am absolutely delighted. I had no idea I was even in the running. It feels amazing to know that the whole country thought my role in Newton was one of my best and to win the Special Mention Award at the highest film award in India is just exhilarating. My director and co-actors made it so easy for me to act in this film.

Boney Kapoor

Late actor Sridevi was awarded the National Award for Best Actress for her last film, Mom. For husband Boney Kapoor, it’s a hugely emotional moment:

“I’m too overwhelmed. I wish she was here. It’s her first, so many things come to mind, I wish she was here.”

Taapsee Pannu

With Ghazi winning the National Award for the Best Telugu Film, Taapsee Pannu is hugely elated.

“Elated with the news about ‘Ghazi’ winning the Best Telugu film. This is the third time I have had the opportunity to be a part of a National Award-winning film. Even though I had a special appearance in the film, it was personally a very satisfying role for me as an actor. I’m ecstatic with the news about the film winning the National Award Honour.”

Divya Dutta

Divya Dutta won the award for Best Supporting Actress for Irada.

I wasn’t expecting it at all, this is my first National Award! Everyone’s been telling me about it, and I’m like, “Finally, it has happened!”. You know, I’ve hosted a lot of awards and I’ve been there, I’ve seen the winners and I’ve seen that beautiful glow on their face, thinking “one day I want that too”.

Amit V Masurkar

The director of Newton, which won the Best Hindi film, is delighted with the film being honoured at the National Awards.

Amit V Masurkar
I want to thank the jury for awarding Newton the National Award for Best Hindi Film. I hope this award and the film’s commercial success creates a bigger space for relevant political cinema. This wouldn’t have been possible without an incredible cast, crew, and the love and support from the people of Chhattisgarh where we shot the film.
