In an interesting interview to Huffington Post India, actor Bobby Deol opened up about his absence from Bollywood, his desire to make a comeback and his recent appearance as a DJ at an event.

Bobby who turns 48 on 27 January, also reveals that he was originally supposed to do Jab We Met but things just didn’t work out:

I was also to do <em>Jab We Met</em>. Back then, it was titled <em>Geet</em>. I had seen <em>Socha Na Tha</em> and instantly reached out to Imtiaz saying that he’s an incredible storyteller with a terrific future. I told him that I wanted to work with him and he had the script of (what is now) <em>Jab We Met </em>ready. He was looking for financiers. There was a studio called Shri Ashtavinayak who wanted to sign me. I told them that let’s sign Imtiaz. He has a script ready. And let’s talk to Kareena Kapoor (Bobby had worked with Bebo in <em>Ajnabee</em>). The producers were like, oh no, that guy will make an expensive film. Kareena, on the other hand, didn’t even want to meet Imtiaz. I took them to Preity (his close friend and <em>Soldier</em> co-star). She agreed but said she can do it only after 6 months. So we were stuck.Days passed. And suddenly I read that Ashtavinayak has signed Imtiaz for <em>Jab We Met </em>and Kareena is doing the film! And she had gotten her then boyfriend, Shahid Kapoor to act opposite her. I was like, wow. Quite an industry.”

Bobby says he’s not fixated on doing a lead role, he’s open to doing any part as long as it has scope for him to perform:

Honestly, I am starving to work. I am dying to work. I want work. I want the movie producers to know that I am still around and very much available. I am looking not just to play the lead role but any role that gives me a scope to perform well. The industry suffers from a serious problem where they go by perception rather than reality. Sometimes there’s a big gap between the two. People here think I’m Dharmendra’s son, I used to be a big star so I’ll still prefer to do only starry roles. No, man. I am chill. Give me a good character role and I’ll be as good as I used to be. I feel no shame in asking for work. Why should anyone?

And here’s Bobby talking about his recent stint as a DJ:

I practically got conned. Some dude approached me to show up at a club and advertised it as if I was going to be the DJ for the night. He told me about this but assured me that I don’t really have to play. Now, I don’t know jack shit about DJing. It’s an intricate job, not everyone can just get behind a console and get on it. So I showed up thinking I’ll hang around and leave but I know it backfired. People made a lot of fun. Now, a friend of mine sings, ‘<em>DJ wale Bobby </em><em>mera</em><em> </em><em>gaana</em><em> </em><em>baja</em><em> do,’ </em>to me all the time.
