Yup, if sources are to be believed, Amitabh Bachchan is signing up for the Hindi remake of Kabali. He would of course reprise Rajinikanth’s role in the film. And considering the gold Kabali is reaping at the box office, this would surely be an attractive role for Big B.
Many of Bachchan’s films, who also happens to be a good friend of Rajinikanth’s, have been remade into Tamil with Thalaivar in the lead. These include Deewaar (1975) (remade into Tamil as Thee), Don (1978) (Billa in Tamil), Namak Halaal (1982) (Velaikaran in Tamil). However, the opposite is not true, Kabali would be one of the few Rajini starrers to make it into Big B’s body of work.
Amitabh Bachchan professes himself to be a Rajini fan as well!
The Hindi version of Kabali did not do as brisk a business as its Tamil counterpart, which is set against the Tamil community in Malaysia and is hence very culture-specific. It would be interesting to see if the film with Big B is set against the same backdrop or a completely new one more suited to the tastes of a North Indian audience.
Let the fireworks begin, we say!
