Shankar’s 2.0 is the most expensive Indian film ever made till date. With an estimated budget of over Rs 400 crore, the Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar-starrer is being shot in 3D and is scheduled for a 2018 release.

Not many know that this sequel to Robot was first offered to Aamir Khan when Rajinikanth couldn’t do it due to health reasons. However, in a recent interview to Komal Nahta, Aamir revealed why he turned the film down. The Dangal actor states that he knows that the film will be biggest hit and will break box-office records across all languages, but he still didn’t take up the film.

“Rajini sir was himself feeling that I am not well, and he told Shankar, please request Aamir. Rajini sir called me up and said please do the film. I think it’s a superb script and it’s going to do very well. But whenever I used to shut my eyes, I used to see Rajini sir in that role, I could not see myself. Emotionally when I used to think of the film and the scene, Rajini sir used to come in my head. I could not imagine myself doing it. I told Shankar - I’ll not be able to do it, only Rajini sir can do this film, he is irreplaceable.”
