PM Modi Wins From Varanasi, Set to Represent Seat for Second Time

Modi had won the Varanasi seat in the 2014 elections by a margin 3.7 lakh votes.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, 23 May, won the Varanasi constituency from Utar Pradesh with a record margin of 4.5 lakh votes, representing the seat for the second time in the Lok Sabha.

Leading the Bharatiya Janata Party towards what is certain to be a resounding victory for a second term in office, PM Modi had earlier taken to Twitter to celebrate the results.

Modi had won the Varanasi seat in the 2014 elections by a margin of 3.7 lakh votes.

Even as initial trends had indicated Modi's victory from the seat, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj tweeted:

Incidentally, after Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi, Narendra Modi is the third prime minister of the country who has been able to retain power for a second term with full majority in Lok Sabha, reported news agency PTI.
