Senior BJP leader Major General (Retd) Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri's son Manish Khanduri joined the Congress in party president Rahul Gandhi’s presence on Saturday, 16 March.

"I believe that under Rahul Gandhi's leadership, the Congress will make the country stronger," Manish said in his first address after joining the party.

The Congress is going to field him as its candidate from Pauri Lok Sabha seat, currently held by Manish’s father, news agency PTI reported on Friday, 15 March.

Till recently, Manish was the Head of News Partnerships at Facebook India. He was also a senior business journalist with the Business Standard newspaper and the Businessworld magazine in Delhi and Mumbai.

Manish is a Marketing & Finance Graduate from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in Illinois, US.

Earlier, on Friday, BJP state president Ajay Bhatt had said that Manish Khanduri is not a party member and so it doesn't matter where he goes.

"Not a single BJP leader is joining the Congress at its rally on 16 March ," Bhatt had told PTI.

It is Rahul Gandhi's first rally in Dehradun after the announcement of the Lok Sabha poll schedule.
