“Food has no religion,” responded Zomato, on Wednesday, 31 July, to a controversial post from a Twitter user who apparently cancelled his order after the food aggregator assigned a Muslim delivery person.

Following this, many on the social media platform lauded Zomato for its brilliant “food for thought” and “stand against” ideologies.

On the night of 30 July, in a series of tweets, a user on Twitter by the name of Amit Shukal tweeted about cancelling his order placed on Zomato as the designated rider was a "non-Hindu".

In a series of tweets, he also shared screenshots of his conversation with Zomato's customer care, saying he would take up the issue with his lawyers.

However, the company stood its ground and refused to change the delivery executive. Even Zomato founder Deepinder Goyal echoed his company's stand with a firm message.

Netizens Laud Zomato’s Stand

To no one’s surprise, Zomato’s response was applauded by netizens, some claiming they will “use the app more often”!

Here’s what people said:

Writer Sanjukta Basu thanked Zomato for shutting up the ‘bigotry’.

Meanwhile, few users pointed out that Shukal was entitled to choose the delivery person and Zomato should not “support such things.”
