Congress party General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday, 29 March, lashed out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), dubbing it "anti-farmer" and "pro-rich", and appealed to voters to oust the saffron party from power, in Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya.

She also took a pot shot at Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying when he does not know anything about villages in his Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency how will he develop them.

Launching a blistering attack on Modi two days after his Mission Shakti, Gandhi said, "If you cannot listen to the voice of your people, then what kind of power do you have?"

"The BJP government is anti-farmer, anti-forces. Farmers are reeling in debt. The government's focus is only on helping the rich, making the rich richer," she said at a "nukkad sabha" in Ayodhya on the last day of her three-day Uttar Pradesh visit.

She accused the government of trying to shut down MGNREGA scheme and claimed that workers under the scheme had not been paid for six months.

“When they were in opposition, they opposed the MGNREGA, but as soon as they came to power they realised how good the scheme was,” she said.

Speaking about the party's fresh attempt to cater to the impoverished voters, Priyanka said:

“This government wants to snatch the poor people’s employment. But the Congress through NYAY scheme will give Rs 72,000 per poor family.”
