Prime Minister Narendra Modi, soon after taking oath for his second term, said that his new cabinet of ministers is the perfect mix of youthful energy and administrative experience. In a tweet, PM Modi said that his cabinet has people who have excelled as Parliamentarians and those who have had distinguished professional careers.

A total of 58 ministers were sworn-in as part of the new Council of Ministers, with Amit Shah making an entry into the Cabinet. Among other notable politicians sworn-in as part of the Cabinet are Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Sadananda Gowda, Nirmala Sitharaman, Smriti Irani, Ravi Shankar Prasad and former foreign secretary S Jaishankar.

Among those who are not part of the Council are Sushma Swaraj (who did not contest the elections), Suresh Prabhu, Jayant Sinha and Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore.

Maneka Gandhi Likely to be Pro Tem Speaker

Senior BJP leader and eight-time MP Maneka Gandhi is likely to be the pro tem speaker, sources cited by PTI said.

Gandhi, 62, a veteran BJP leader, had won from the Sultanpur seat in Uttar Pradesh.

Gandhi is the outgoing Union Minister for Women and Child Development. The main duty of the pro tem speaker is to administer the oath of office to new members of the Lok Sabha.

A temporary post, the pro tem speaker presides over the first meeting of the lower House of Parliament after the general elections, besides presiding over the sitting in which the speaker and deputy speaker are elected if it is a newly-constituted House.

Who All Are Invited for Modi’s Swearing-In?

On the political front, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Congress President Rahul Gandhi, former PM Manmohan Singh, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and Telangana CM K Chandrashekar Rao are the prominent faces who are attending.

Foreign leaders including Bangladesh President Abdul Hamid, Sri Lanka President Maithripala Sirisena, Kyrgyzstan President Sooronbay Jeenbekov, Myanmar President U Win Myint, Mauritius PM Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, Nepal PM KP Sharma Oli, Bhutan PM Lotay Tshering, and special envoy of Thailand Grisada Boonrach have also confirmed their participation at the swearing-in ceremony.
