Faced with the double-whammy of demonetisation and a Chinese influx of machine-made chikan, the informal chikankari sector of Lucknow and its women workers are feeling the pinch.
In an interview with Barkha Dutt for The Quint, the workers have a message for political leaders who make big promises when canvassing for Muslim votes, only to forget all about them when elections are over.
Can this traditional art survive in the absence of formal recognition?
