Women in politics and women's safety are major issues this election. What is the opinion of women ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and will women’s issues play an important role? The Quint reached Meerut's Chaudhary Charan Singh University to speak to the women students and understand their perspective on the upcoming election.

On being asked how important women’s issues are this election, Anusha, a student, said that women are not helpless and that they can do things independently. “We need no protection,” she asserted.

Zeenat, another student, said that security is priority. "We can think of other issues only after security. Education, career, financial support come after that," she said.

On the usefulness of the Anti-Romeo squad, Preeti, another student, said that it has been both good and bad. She added that while boys loitering around their college had stopped, the police continued to be suspicious of everybody.

On the need for women to join politics, the girls said that women in power could raise awareness of women's issues better.

They also stressed on the fact that the government needed to focus more on basic infrastructure like roads, adding that voters need to think more about their MPs and less about the prime minister.

Another point that came up in The Quint's discussion with them was that Priyanka Gandhi should focus more on women instead of only politics. "We need more women who wish to work for women and not just focus on politics," they said.

On being asked who they see as their next prime minister, the majority said that Modi should remain at the helm, while one of them said that there needed to be a change.
