The Congress appears to be facing the heat of the Modi wave in its bastion of Manipur. In an unprecedented show, the BJP won 21 seats in the state, eating into the Congress’ base and leaving the party at 28, which is three short of an absolute majority.

Activist-turned-politician Irom Sharmila suffered a humiliating defeat in her debut polls. Her party, PRJA, failed to bag even a single seat.
