Jittery BJP May Pit Shivraj Against Digvijaya in Bhopal

The BJP in Madhya Pradesh has withheld its nominee for the Bhopal Lok Sabha seat after the Congress formally fielded former Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh. The party has deferred a decision on Gwalior and Indore too.

Former Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who was initially considered for Vidisha may be asked to take on Digvijaya Singh. The RSS has also assessing the claim of Pragya Thakur, the saffron Sadhvi who was recently acquitted of charges in the Malegaon blasts.

Tripura: Congress and INPT Form Alliance for LS Polls

Tripura Congress President Pradyot Kishore has announced that his party and the Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT) are forming an alliance for the Lok Sabha polls.

“Lok Sabha polls will be a test for forces which want to bring the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill against those who want to oppose it,” he said.

CWC Meet Today to Give Final Shape to Congress Manifesto, Discuss Alliances

The top Congress leadership will on Monday, 25 March, discuss and give a final shape to the party's manifesto for the Lok Sabha elections starting 11 April.

According to sources cited by PTI, the contents of the manifesto will be discussed at the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting at its headquarters at Akbar Road in Delhi.

BJP Releases List of Candidates for Odisha LS and Assembly Polls

The BJP has released its list of candidates for two parliamentary constituencies and nine Assembly constituencies in Odisha. Kharbela Swain, who joined the BJP on Monday itself, would be contesting from the parliamentary seat of Kandhamal.

Meanwhile, former Odisha DGP and DG CRPF Prakash Mishra would be contesting from the parliamentary constituency of Cuttack. He joined the BJP on Sunday.

Akbaruddin Owaisi Takes a Dig at Modi Over His 'Chowkidar' Campaign

With campaigning for the Lok Sabha polls in full swing, AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi took a dig at PM Modi over his ‘chowkidar’ push, saying, “I've seen on Twitter 'Chowkidar Narendra Modi'. He should also mention ‘chowkidar' in his Aadhaar card and passport. (We) want a PM, not a 'chaiwala','pakodewala'... If Modi is interested, he should come to me, I'll offer him a chowkidar's cap and a whistle.”

SC Dismisses Plea Seeking Ban on Roadshows, Bike Rallies During Polls

The Supreme Court on Monday refused to entertain a plea filed by a former DGP of Uttar Pradesh seeking a direction to the Election Commission of India to ban roadshows and bike rallies during polls.

"We are not inclined to entertain this," a bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Deepak Gupta told advocate Virag Gupta, who was appearing for petitioners Vikram Singh and Shaivika Agrawal.

Singh, a former Director General of Police of Uttar Pradesh, said in his petition that the roadshows and bike rallies violate EC's instructions and cause damage to the environment.

SC Asks EC to File Affidavit Regarding VVPAT, To Hear Opposition Plea on 1 April

The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Election Commission to file an affidavit by 28 March on why physical verification of VVPAT paper trail should not be extended to more than one polling station per Assembly segment.

The apex court asked the poll body to give reason for its satisfaction on the existing arrangement of sample survey of one EVM with VVPAT per assembly segment.

The court will hear on 1 April the plea of 21 Opposition leaders, including Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu, on the use of VVPAT in elections.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a public rally in the outskirts of Jammu city on 28 March in support of party candidates for the Lok Sabha elections, a senior BJP leader said on Monday.

Sitting BJP MPs Jugal Kishore Sharma and Jitendra Singh are seeking re-election from the Jammu and the Udhampur parliamentary constituencies in the state.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a public rally to be held at Panchayat Doomi, tehsil Bhalwal, in Jammu on 28 March,” BJP national vice-president and J&K in-charge Avinash Rai Khanna told reporters.

Candidate for one assembly constituency in Odisha was also declared.
