Congress President Rahul Gandhi urged voters on Thursday, 18 April, to "vote for Nyay (justice)" as the polling in the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections began.

In a letter, Gandhi appealed to the voters for justice for the unemployed youth, struggling farmers, small businesspeople and those who were persecuted due to their religion or caste.

Using the hashtag #VoteNyayVoteCongress, the Congress president said that the party does not want to create two Indias. "Modiji believes in snatching from people. We will make the public a shareholder in government's wealth," read the letter.

"Nyay" is also the social welfare scheme announced by the Congress party in its election manifesto that promises to pay Rs 72,000 per annum to families living below the poverty line.

The second phase of polling for Lok Sabha elections began on Thursday, 17 April, in 95 constituencies.
