The headquarters of Odisha BJP Wednesday witnessed hectic political activity, as a large number of ruling BJD leaders, including three sitting MLAs, joined the saffron party ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha and assembly elections.

Sanjeev Kumar, Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer, on Thursday 21 March told ANI that the EC mapped 4,03,907 Persons with Disabilities till 28 February. He said that everything requiring to their (persons with disabilities) assistance is being arranged. 35,739 wheelchairs, over 52,000 magnifying glasses, over 2213 sign language interpreters and over 31,000 assistants have been arranged for people with disabilities. Apart from that, sturdy ramps are being arranged in all 58,180 booths. Kumar also said that the EC is ensuring that all booths are on ground floors.
There will be special queue for Persons with Disabilities.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik was among the 18 candidates who filed their nominations on Wednesday for the upcoming assembly elections, which will be held along with the Lok Sabha polls next month.
Mr Patnaik, who will contest from two seats this time as Biju Janata Dal nominee, filed his nomination from Hinjily assembly constituency in Ganjam district, where he is seeking election for the fifth consecutive time.
The chief minister said he will submit his nomination papers for Bijepur in Bargarh district soon.

The head of 'Ayya Vazhi', a reformist spiritual sect that has a significant following in southern Tamil Nadu, has raised the demand for separate religion status ahead of Lok Sabha polls.
Since a chunk of Hindu Nadars, who form the core of Ayya Vazhi, have traditionally supported the BJP in elections here, there is speculation if this stand of the sect could affect the saffron party's electoral prospects in Kanyakumari, the sole Lok Sabha constituency it won in Tamil Nadu in 2014.

The Bharatiya Janata Party, on Thursday 21 March released its list of 18 candidates for the Arunachal Pradesh Assembly elections and Sikkim assembly polls. 6 names have been announced for Arunachal Pradesh and 12 for Sikkim.
Apart from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah, nine film personalities, including Hema Malini, will campaign for the saffron party candidates in the upcoming Lok Sabha and state Assembly elections in Odisha, reported news agency PTI.

Actor Salman Khan on Thursday, 21 March, said he will not be campaigning for any political party for the Lok Sabha polls, days after a Congress leader in Madhya Pradesh claimed that his party is speaking to the actor for electoral canvassing.
"Contrary to the rumours I am not contesting elections nor campaigning for any political party," Khan said in a tweet.
On Tuesday, state Congress spokesperson Pankaj Chaturvedi said that party leaders have already talked to Khan to campaign in Indore and they were almost certain that he will be campaigning.
